KDE shortcut of the day

Submitted by blizzz

Precious in dual screen setups only, however. I found out by chance, that pressing Ctrl+< shifts the current window to the next screen. Isn't it wonderful?

Works in KDE 4.3, don't know about former versions.

Update: I'm sorry! The default setting is None for this shurtcut, which you can confuge in "Global Keyboard Shortcuts", section "Kwin", Key "Window to Next Screen". Obviously, i changed this long long long ago and forgot about it. Nevertheless, the shortcut is cool!

The scenario is: you have (on a KDE 4.2 desktop) a panel with fading out enabled. You use Kopete for instant messaging, but don't want sound notifications for incoming messages. Also you don't want popups when the chat window is actually focused.

The solution (at least for me) is: a little python script, some dbus magic and use of kdialog. You set up a notification on incoming messages and type your script in the "run command" text input field. Note that you have to give the path in apostrophe`s, else it will fail. The script does following:

(Deutsche Version unten) The outstanding team of Amarok released version 2.0.1.1 of their ingenious music player, thanks for that! However, a little thing does not meet my taste: the playlist filter. Becuase i am a very fan of the biased playlists, i have no usage for it. Unfortunately, there is no option to blank it. I'd appreciate (wish), if this will be included in one of the next releases (to me, the ui looks cleaner without it, too).

Wasn't the double standard supposed to work the other way?
Orson Scott Card: Treasure Box

meme howto:

  1. Grab the nearest book.
  2. Open it to page 56.
  3. Find the fifth sentence.
  4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
  5. Don’t dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.
