I moved my Diaspora Account
Submitted by blizzz
TL;DR: I recently moved my Diaspora account. Here is my new profile, follow me there.
Diaspora is a distributed social network, founded few years ago by four students and meanwhile solely being developed by its community. It is not backed by a huge company the sells your data. Distributed means anybody can set up his own instance, called pod, and be part of the whole network, or join one of the many available pods.
Originally, and since early days, my account was hosted on the joindiaspora pod, that was managed by the developers. Meanwhile, it switched the registration to be invitation-only, and also it was also lagging behind a bit in updating the running version. Also just recently, when Diaspora 0.4 was released (it is up to date now). I decided to switch to Geraspora, which is hosted here in Germany and has also a good record for quite some time. Geraspora is backed by donations and a sponsorship.
Diaspora works for me as a way to communicate with the world, i.e. for spreading and collecting information. So probably what most others do use Twitter for. It works quite good, alas the number of participants can always be higher. Most friends and colleagues are not there though, so I stay in touch with them in a proprietary, centralized network :(
